Apple is expected to launch its larger 15.5-inch MacBook Air at its WWDC 2023 event. While the main focus of the event will be iOS 17, watchOS 10, macOS 10, and other software updates, the company will see fit to announce new hardware as well. We have previously reported that the company is working on a new version of the MacBook Air with a bigger display. It is now being reported that Apple's bigger 15.5-inch MacBook Air will be powered by the M2 chip, and the M2 Pro chip is out of the question for now.

Apple to launch 15.5-Inch MacBook Air with two variants of the M2 chip, M2 Pro chip abandoned

In terms of design, the 15.5-inch MacBook Air will feature the same overall outlook, Apple redesigned the MacBook Air last year in June where slimming down the bezels and introducing a notch on display. Additionally, the display size jumped up from 13.3 inches to 13.6 inches. The company is now looking to add a new model to the lineup that will feature a larger 15.5-inch display. This will allow the company to streamline the product line as the M2 Pro and M2 Max MacBook Pro models.

In terms of internals, it was initially reported that the 15.5-inch MacBook Air will come with an M2 chip alongside an M2 Pro chip. While concrete details were scarce, prominent analyst Ming-Chi Kuo is now stating that the company will abandon the M2 Pro chip in favor of the M2 chip. What this means is that the forthcoming MacBook Air will feature more or less the same performance capabilities as the 13.6-inch version.

M2 Pro 15.5-Inch MacBook Air Launch

Additionally, the M2 chip in the 15.5-inch MacBook Air will come in two options, similar to the 13.6-inch version. If the news has any heft to it, we will see the M2 chip with an 8 and 10-core GPU. Take note that the M2 chip was a worthy upgrade compared to the original M1 chip as it brought enhanced computational and graphics capabilities. As for the M2 Pro chip, Apple could see fit to introduce it in future versions of the device.

Apple's M3 chip is under development and will enter mass production later this year. This means that an M3 chip could make a debut on the 13.6 and 15.5-inch models of the MacBook Air. As mentioned earlier, the company could launch the larger MacBook Air at its WWDC event alongside software updates. We will keep you guys updated on the latest, so be sure to stick around,
