Apple's latest iOS 17 and iPadOS 17 updates will bag a lot of front-facing features that users have been requesting for a while. While Apple has implemented some of those features, the company also makes sure that users should be given the option to have control over their behavior. With that said, the company implemented a new feature in iOS 17 and iPadOS 17, which will limit users to use their iPhone or iPad at arm's length.

iOS 17 will bring a new Screen Time feature which will limit users to use their phones at a certain distance

Users should use screens from a distance, or it will put a strain on their eyes. Apple embedded a Night Shift feature in iOS which allowed the device to reduce blue light emission, which has various drawbacks, including trouble sleeping. According to Apple, the new feature is designed for children to reduce the risk of nearsightedness.

If you are not familiar, the new feature will allow individuals to use the iPhone from a distance. If the device is too close to their face, above the set limit, the iPhone will show a message suggesting that the "iPhone is Too Close". iOS 17 will make use of the Face ID sensors to make the feature work. The TrueDeoth sensor will measure the distance between the iPhone and the user's face and recommend if the individual should keep a distance from the screen.

Once the iPhone is moved away at a safe distance, a checkmark sign will be displayed on the screen, highlighting that it is now safe to use the device. If you are running the latest iOS 17 beta 1 on your iPhone, you can check out the feature by heading over to Settings > Screen Time > Screen Distance. Furthermore, the feature is available on all iPhone and iPad models with a Face ID. This means that only the iPad Pro models will receive the feature. Other models feature Touch ID in the Power Button, restricting the device from measuring the distance between the user's face and the screen.

Apple has housed a plethora of Accessibility features in iOS 17 and iPadOS 17, which will be available on all compatible iPhone and iPad models. The platform will also feature a Personal Voice feature which will allow individuals to create their voice on the device. The company has made the required changes throughout the operating system where users can use their voice, FaceTime, for instance. iOS 17 will be released to the general public later this year in September alongside the new iPhone 15 lineup.
