AMD's latest Adrenaline drivers were met with very positive response as they pack a great set of tools for gamers and PC builders aside from keeping your graphics card up and running through latest optimizations. However, the drivers have also brought a game breaking bug that will limit you from playing older DirectX 9 titles.
AMD's Adrenaline Driver Breaks DirectX 9 Games, Fix Expected in Upcoming Driver Release
While AMD and the team at RTG has done a great job fine tuning their graphics drivers for modern titles, it seems like a bug has slipped passed their eyes that breaks older DirectX 9 titles. If you are running an AMD graphics card with the Adrenaline driver release, you are expected to notice slow downs and inconsistent frames when running older titles.
There are a majority of gamers who love playing some good old games that were built on the DX9 API. While driver support stop for older titles after a while, some new driver releases can break up older titles by either not supporting them at all or causing frame and playability issues. This is the case with AMD's latest Adrenaline drivers and following is a list of titles that have so far been said to be affected by it (Via Computerbase):
C & C3 Tiberium WarsC & C3 Kane's WrathC & C Red Alert 3C & C Red Alert 3 UpingC & C4 Tiberian TwilightBattle for Middle-earth 1 and 2The Witcher 1 Enhanced EditionMini ninja
According to users on various sites, the games cannot even be started with the latest driver installed. Following was the initial response prepped by AMD:
This title is from 2007, so we are unlikely to devote any valuable engineering resources to this issue, which is most likely caused by outdated API modules. via AMD
After that, Terry Makedon (Director of AMD software strategy and user experience) confirmed that they are already working on a fix for the bug which will be available soon.
Happy 2018 everyone!! I am seeing some stories pop up about AMD not supporting some old games. That is absolutely not true, we are identifying the bug and working on a fix asap. C&C, Witcher, BfME, etc will be working again.

Overall, it's nice to see that AMD will be issuing a fast fix for the said titles as old games are gems for many gamers and playing them again could be lots of fun. It is not stated when the driver will be released but for users who really care for older titles can revert back to the Crimson series to keep on playing the titles until the new driver hits the web.
