AMD Fluid Motion Frames Technology Now Available In 12 Games With Latest Driver, Double Your FPS With 1-Click-February 2024

AMD has finally debuted its highly-anticipated Fluid Motion Frames technology in the Adrenaline preview driver, supporting twelve games.

AMD Significantly Enhances "Upscaling" Abilities Through FSR 3 and Fluid Motion Frame Technologies

Team Red has stepped up its game regarding upscaling technologies, especially with the debut of FSR 3 with titles such as Forspoken and Immortals of Aveum. While FSR 3 is confined to particular games, AMD's Fluid Motion Frames (AFMF) features support for numerous titles, including Starfield and Red Dead Redemption 2. You can download the latest technical preview driver here!

The titles featuring compatibility with AFMF are listed below:

A Plague Tale - Requiem Borderlands 3 Control Dead Space
Deep Rock Galactic Dying Light 2 Far Cry 6 Ghostwire: Tokyo
Hitman 3 Hogwarts Legacy Horizon Zero Dawn™ Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition
Red Dead Redemption 2 Resident Evil 3 Resident Evil 4 Shadow Of The Tomb Raider
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor™ Starfield The Last of Us™ Part 1 The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

Radeon Product Compatibility

AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition Technical Preview Driver for AMD Fluid Motion Frames Version 23.30.01.02 is compatible only with AMD Radeon RX 7900/7800/7700/7600 RDNA 3 GPUs.

The feature is currently in for a preview release, with AMD actively receiving feedback from gamers (via its Bug Tool) to improve its effectiveness.

In addition, we are excited to share an early preview of the latest AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition release, offering gamers the opportunity to preview the forthcoming driver-based version of AMD Fluid Motion Frames (AFMF) technology.

AFMF allows AMD Radeon RX 7000 series graphics users to increase their framerates with frame interpolation technology across thousands of DirectX 11 and DirectX 12 game titles. We encourage gamers to check out AFMF and provide feedback directly to AMD using the bug reporting tool.

Now, what is AMD's Fluid Motion Frames technology? Many consider it an alternative to NVIDIA's "Frame Generation." In simple terms, the feature squeezes out as many "frames-per-second" as possible by implementing frame interpolation on the driver side. Coupled with FSR 3, AMD plans on improving a gamer's experience without him ever worrying about the performance output from his Radeon GPU. AFMF is expected to support all DX11/12 titles, but for now, the preview driver only adds support for 12 DX12 titles for now.

AFMF has been the talk of the town because it doesn't need support on a "developer" level since it comes integrated with your graphics drivers. However, it is still important to note that when comparing it to NVIDIA's DLSS 3 "Frame Generation" or AMD's own FSR 3 with "Frame-Generation" it would be much inferior.

You can enable the feature by downloading AMD's preview driver, but one should note that the AFMF is in its initial stages; hence, you can experience disruptions when utilizing it. We have tested the technology in Forspoken and it works as intended which is to double your FPS by implementing interpolation:

AMD plans to make AFMF technology exclusive to the Radeon RX 7000 series, and the feature doesn't officially support any other Radeon GPU. This move by AMD may be temporary since AFMF is in its testing phase, and we might see it receiving support for architectures other than RDNA3.

We have made a technical preview of @amd Fluid Motion Frames available for those of you that would like to begin testing and experiencing it with us. We would like your feedback as we continue to work on the official release. We hope you like it. https://t.co/c59gC4Ki0G

That said, it is safe to say that AMD has indeed ramped up its efforts to place its upscaling technologies similar to its competitors. It will be interesting to see what type of performance improvements FSR 3, especially AFMF, brings in supported titles since this factor would make them superior to others.
