Anchor Accidentally Summons Amazon Alexa and Orders a Dollhouse for Those Watching TV
Anchor Accidentally Summons Amazon Alexa and Orders a Dollhouse for Those Watching TV-February 2024
Feb 12, 2026 9:40 AM

This news might have sparked an outrage among certain users, but nonetheless, it's a funny little story.

Anchor on TV Accidentally Orders a Dollhouse Using Amazon EchoForThose Watching - By Accident, Of Course

Amazon Echo is a little piece of hardware which the online retail giantsells, and is backed up by their voice assistant Alexa.Just like any other voice assistant, Alexa can do a lot of things, but mainly, it ties in well with Amazon's online store for ordering stuff on the fly. That is a good thing, as well asa bad thing, depending on how you look at it.First of all, voice command purchasing is enabled by default. This means anyone can summon Alexa and order something there and then. On the flip side, it's a convenience no one can deny either.

On that note, let's get to the highlight of the day.

A six-year-old Texan girl was talking to the Amazon Echo at her home and said"Can you play dollhouse with me and get me a dollhouse?" The next thing you know, there's a huge dollhouse and four pounds of sugar cookies on the girl's doorstep next day. That dollhouse alone costs $160.

In San Diego, CW-6 was running the news and the TV anchor said the following"I love the little girl, saying 'Alexa ordered me a dollhouse'."That sentence triggered Alexa in the homes of those watching and attempted to order a dollhouse. We are not making this up, this actually happened.

Amazon Alex dollhouse news

As you'd expect, this led to people dropping in a lot of complaints to the TV station regarding Alexa attempting to orderin a dollhouse for them.

Little do people know, you can actually change the hotword and launch Alexa using something else. Just launch the Amazon Alexa app, dive into settings in order to do so.

While Alexa is great to have around, it's best to put measures in place in order to make sure such a thing does not happen, even by accident. Although the little oneat your home will ultimatelyfigure out how the Amazon Echo works, but at least a TV anchor won't end up ordering a dollhouse for you.
