Android 14 Developer Preview 2 Is Now Rolling Out With A Host Of New Features-February 2024
Feb 12, 2026 8:20 AM

Google has decided to start the rollout of Android 14 Developer Preview 2, and as expected, the new update brings several new changes. We expect to see the beta versions start rolling out sometime next month or in May, but for now, we have the latest developer preview that brings several new changes for developers.

Google continues to improve Android with Android 14 Developer Preview 2

For those wondering what the new Android 14 Developer Preview 2 is all about, Google is still working on privacy and security. With the new Android versions, users can ensure that apps are only accessing the photos and videos you are allowing. Users will have the option to allow access to all the photos and videos, specific photos and videos, or none at all.

Google has also decided to make Credential Manager a platform API in Android 14 Developer Preview 2. With this change, Google wants to simplify sign-in for users. Moreover, Android 14 Developer Preview 2 also brings better overall performance and system-wide optimizations to how the operating system works. For instance, one optimization will dismiss all app activity when the app goes into the background. The non-system notifications can now be dismissed by the user as well.

As expected, Google has also made a lot of changes throughout the entirety of the operating system. For instance, app stores are getting better overall experience. For instance, if you use a non-Google app store, you no longer have to rely on Play Store. If an app gets updated on a different app store, it will update through the same store. Furthermore, with the Android 14 Developer Preview 2, Google allows European metrics that can be used systemwide. Last but not least, the new update also brings more control over how the apps behave.

Again, if these new features don't make sense to you as a user, that's because they are not supposed to. As the name suggests, the developer preview ismainly for developers. However, Google has still given you all the tools that you need to install the update. We have attached the images and OTA files below for your convenience.
