It has not been long since Google announced the unknown AirTag tracker alerts, and the company has finally started rolling out the new feature to all supported Android devices. Once you have received this feature, you will start getting alerts about hidden AirTags that you might have on you.
Your Android devices will soon be able to tell you if you have an AirTag on you, with more tracker support coming soon
For those wondering how this works, your Android devices will get an alert telling the user that an unknown Bluetooth tracker that is no longer with the owner appears to be traveling with you. Tapping the notification will reveal more information about the tracker and will even show you a map of the distance the tracker has traveled with you. In addition to that, you can even use the new feature to play sound on the tracker to help you locate it, and the owner will not be notified.
Google has even provided you with some options that will ensure that you can take the right steps and save yourself. You can actually go ahead and contact someone trusted or local law enforcement. You can go ahead and save the tracker owner information and take a screenshot, or you can learn how to disable the tracker, as well. This is the right step as it will help people stay protected and safe.
Once the rollout is complete, every supported Android device will start running automatic checks to ensure that you don't have a tracker on you. However, if you want, you can just go to Settings > Safety & Emergency > Unknown tracker alerts > Scan now. You will be able to get the list in no time. Google has said that the update is rolling out to all devices running Android 6.0 and above, and the update will be rolled out via a Google Play services update that is rolling out as we speak and will be available to all the devices in the coming weeks.
At the moment, this feature will work on all supported Android devices but will only be able to detect Apple AirTags. However, Google has announced how it is working with other smart tags manufacturers such as Samsung, Tile, Chipolo, eufy Security, and more to ensure that the joint industry specification is met. We will keep you posted as we get our hands on more information about the support rolling out for other tracking devices.
