The Wireless Power Consortium revealed the Qi 2.0 wireless charging standard earlier this year. The charging standard was based on Apple's MagSafe technology, using magnets to keep the device and accessories held together. Now, we finally have an announcement that the accessories will be ready by the end of 2023, which means next year's phone could use the new charging standard.
Qi 2.0 wireless charging standard will usher wireless charging into a new and better era
The announcement tells us that the first set of Qi 2.0 accessories will be hitting the market during the Christmas holiday season, and the first accessories will be available for the iPhone 15 series. Companies ranging from AirCharge, Belkin, Anker, and Mophie will be in charge of making wireless chargers while many other supported accessories are currently being tested or waiting for their certification.
For those wondering, there are several benefits that come from the Qi 2.0 wireless charging standard. For starters, the magnetic attachment is one of them. You are also getting faster charging, better efficiency, and better convenience, as well. There are going to be two standards of the new charging technology: the first one is MPP (Magnetic Power Profile), which is based on Apple's MagSafe, and the second one is EPP (Extended Power Profile), which comes without magnetic support but supports up to 30W charging.
Considering how the Qi 2.0 wireless standard is ready to shine, we can expect it to start debuting on smartphones as early as next year. I am really hoping that this debuts on the new Galaxy S24 because I have been eyeing that device for some time and would love to have better wireless charging capabilities, especially if you can give me magnets.
You can consider more information to come out in the coming months, and we will be sure to keep you posted about all the information we get our hands on. Stay tuned.
