Apple A12 Allegedly Obtains 5,200 Points in Geekbench, Marking a 24-30% Performance Improvement Over A11 Bionic-February 2024

Apple’s A11Bionicwill eventually be succeeded by the A12, with our previous summarized that the latter will be at least 20 percentmore powerful than the SoC powering the iPhone X. The new chip is going to be present in three new iPhone models and from the looks of what these new benchmarking scores show, we could see an increased performance from the SoC.

A12 Obtains 13,000 Points in Multi-Core Segment - Can Obtain up to 40% Efficiency Compared to 10nm A11 Bionic

According to the popular leakster IceUniverse, the A12 scored 5,200 points on the single-core test and 13,000points on the multi-core test on Geekbench. Comparatively, A11 Bionic had scored 4,200 and 10,000points on the single-core and multi-core tests respectively. This means that a performance improvement of around 24-30percentover the A11Bionicwill be seen on the A12.

TSMC has also laid out a performance roadmap. Compared to the 10nm, the first generation of 7nm can improve performance by 20percentand reduce power consumption by 40percent. In contrast to the mainstream 16nm, performance will be improved by 35percent and power consumption can be reduced by 65percent.

Even though A12’s running scores are within the normal range, the power consumption is 23percentmore than expected. It isn’t clear yet whether it’s a 7nm process issue or an A12 architecture issue which is causing high power consumptionbut rest assured that this expected to be addressed during the official launch of the three new iPhone models.

Highest record iPhone X score on Geekbench

TSMC said that apart from Apple’s A12 SoC, other kinds of chips will also use the 7nm process such AI chips, GPU, network chips, cryptocurrency, 5G modems, automatic driving car silicon, and others. However, the current generation 7nm chips do not use EUV lithography machinery, but the next generation certainly will. Compared to the 7nm, the transistor density of the next generation N7+ processescan be improved by nearly 20percentand power consumption can be reduced by 10percent.

It should also be noted that we have not been able to find these scores on Geekbench anywhere so take this info with a pinch of salt for now.
