Apple Could Reportedly Pay Up To $350 For Each OLED Panel Found On The 2024 iPad Pro
Apple Could Reportedly Pay Up To $350 For Each OLED Panel Found On The 2024 iPad Pro-May 2024

The current iPad Pro lineup with mini-LED technology was not cheap to begin with, and as Apple gravitates to OLED panels next year, customers may have to pay an exorbitant sum to experience those new displays. According to the latest report, each OLED unit is estimated to cost up to an eye-watering $350.

The top-tier 12.9-inch OLED iPad Pro could cost a mammoth $1,800 due to the expensive display technology

A report from The Elec provides price estimations for the OLED screens found in next year’s iPad Pro lineup. For those that do not know, Apple is expected to source these panels from Samsung and LG and is looking for a way to purchase cheaper equipment to bring the price of those displays down. However, assuming the technology giant has little choice in the matter, it might pay up to $350 for each OLED unit found in the iPad Pro.

However, the price is expected to vary depending on the model. The report states that just like on previous occasions, consumers will have a choice to pick between the 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro. Since Apple has not been rumored to introduce a display size change next year, those dimensions suggest that the company will not launch a redesigned tablet family. In any case, the 11-inch slate’s OLED cost is said to be $270, while the larger one is reportedly $350.

2024 iPad Pro with OLED

Assuming customers have to pay up to $1,800, Apple will be competing against its own 2023 MacBook Pro family

Looking at these costs, Apple could sell the 11-inch iPad Pro at $1,500 and $1,800 for the bigger variant, though it has not been mentioned if these figures are for the base models or for higher-tier storage and memory options. We have talked about these price increases in the past, but until recently, we reported that Apple is working with LG to secure more affordable third-party OLED evaporator equipmentto bring the OLED manufacturing cost down.

After all, paying up to $1,800 for an iPad Pro is bonkers for most customers, as the tablet lineup will end up competing with Apple’s MacBook Pro range. Given the current state of iPadOS, consumers would be more inclined to spend their money on a MacBook Pro because these machines can provide more utility. On top of spending hundreds of dollars on a tablet, you will also have to purchase a keyboard accessory separately, with the total burning a hole through your wallet. We will see what pricing strategy Apple follows in 2024, and as always, we will update our readers on the latest.
