Apple Cuts iPhone, iPad, Mac Prices In Select U.S. States, By Allowing Customers To Purchase Tax-Free Products-February 2024
Feb 12, 2026 8:06 AM

If you live in one of the six U.S. states, then there is a golden opportunity awaiting you in the form of tax-free purchases, courtesy of Apple. Customers who are interested in purchasing an iPhone, iPad, Mac, or any other Apple product can do so while attaining some savings, but there are still some conditions involved, as you will find out.

In one U.S. state, tax exemption will only apply to Apple products that fall under the laptop or tablet category and with a sales price of $500 or less

Currently, Apple is offering customers to avail tax-free purchases in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Missouri, Tennessee, and West Virginia. While the following has not been publicly stated by Apple, MacRumors reports that the technology giant intends to add Massachusetts, New Mexico, and South Carolina to the list in the future. Naturally, when it comes to purchasing an Apple product, you have to read the finer details to get a clearer picture of what is going on and how you can actually take advantage of this tax-free period.

Firstly, Apple states that tax savings may not appear during checkout, but those savings will be shown on the final receipt. Also, the tax-free period will begin in late July and end in early August, but keep in mind to check the source link below as each of the six U.S. states will have a different starting date, with Alabama customers getting the first opportunity as the tax-free period will start from July 21 and end on July 23.

It should also be noted that the tax exemption will be applied depending on the price range and the category of products. For instance, West Virginia customers can only take advantage of the exemption for devices that fall under the laptop or tablet category, and that too with a sales price of less than $500.

“To qualify for the tax exemption, the purchase must be made during the sales tax holiday period by an individual for personal use. The tax exemption applies to laptop and tablet computers with a sales price of $500 or less.”

Similarly, for Alabama residents, the total price of all the exempted items cannot exceed $750, and it should be noted that the local tax may be applied to the products. Also, the tax exemptions will only be applied to the following; ‘Computers and computer accessories, such as keyboards, mice, and speakers (when sold with a CPU and the total sales price does not exceed $750), qualify for this tax exemption.’ As stated above, it is imperative the residents check for additional details before they embark on their tax-free purchase spree.
