Apple Generated Various iMessage For Android Replicas, All Of Them Did Not See The Daylight-February 2024
Feb 23, 2026 1:14 AM

Google's take on iMessage was seen in its release of the Allo app, a cross platform app that delivers a unique messaging experience. While there are abundant internet messaging platforms on the market, including the highly adopted WhatsApp, Allo did not turn out to be a super hit amongst users. Apple's iMessageon the other hand was previously thought to be coming to Android. However, this rumortoo did not end up seeing daylight as an Apple executive explained that iMessagewould remain exclusive to iOS. However, there's more on iMessagefor Android.

iMessageFor Android Had Various Mock-upsWith Different UI Element

According to Grubber, Apple had several mock-ups of iMessagefor Android. These replicas were circulating within the working premises of Apple and did not made out. The mock-upsconstituted various UI styles that Apple could have gone with if it decided to release iMessagefor Android. While some mock-upslooked more or less similar to iOS' iMessage, others were closely similar to Material Design.

I’ve heard from little birdies that mockups of iMessage for Android have circulated within the company, with varying UI styles ranging from looking like the iOS Messages app to pure Material Design.1iMessage for Android may never see the light of day, but the existence of detailed mockups strongly suggests that there’s no “of course not” to it.

If the report is anywhere near the truth, Apple was indeed planning to diversify its iMessagemessaging platform to Android. Nonetheless, Apple was quick to ditch the plans and keep the platform for its host devices. iMessageis a great platform, it's usually one of the reasons I consider iOS over Android. With the launch of iOS 10, the messaging platform has seen major design changes. Moreover, there were a lot of front-facing additions part of the release, including a dedicated App Store for Messages.

iOS 10 Messages App

There could be a reason why Apple didn't think of bringing iMessageto Android. Possibly, due to smartphone sales slowing down, iMessagewas one of the reasons why people stick to iOS over Android. This makes sense as Apple did not introduce any major changes in its iPhone lineup since the launch of its iPhone 6 and 6 Plus handsets. This way, by keeping itsiMessageplatform solely reserved for iOS, it made users stick to its name. However, we can still hope Apple toconsider the release of iMessagefor Android.

This is it for now, folks. What are your thoughts on iMessagefor Android? Do you think Apple should reconsider its plans? Share your thoughts with us in the comments.
