This is why I prefer Android: Apple has yet again pulled an app from the App Store just because it had a feature that Apple didn’t include in their iDevices themselves. Camera+ is (or was) a camera app for the iPhone which had features like digital zoom, image stabilization, photo effects, editing and more. Perhaps its greatest feature (and the very feature that got it banned) was it’s use of the volume keys for the shutter…

On the stock camera app that Apple includes with all iPhones, you can only take a picture by clicking on the on-screen soft-button. This makes taking photos of yourself nearly impossible!

Camera+ came up with the solution. People loved it. Even paid 4$ for it. It got strong sales! But alas! Apple wasn’t too happy. And so they pulled for the following reason:

”Application cannot be added to the App Store because it uses iPhone volume buttons in a non-standard way, potentially resulting in user confusion."

Apple also said that,

“Changing the behavior of iPhone external hardware buttons is a violation of the iPhone Developer Program License Agreement. Applications must adhere to the iPhone Human Interface Guidelines as outlined in the iPhone Developer Program License Agreement section 3.3.7."

That is an absolutely crap reason. The ability to take photos with the volume button could only be activated by typing in: camplus://enablevolumesnap on Safari. So if you were activating it, you’d probably already know what you’re in for. :/

So here we are again: Apple gets rid of an app just because it was too damn useful.
