Apple Vision Pro Has A Hefty Weight Thanks To Its Aluminum And Glass Build; Top Strap Accessory Could Be Charged Separately To Remove Discomfort-March 2024

The Apple Vision Pro design language shares similarities with the company’s other products, such as the build quality, where the AR headset is made using the pairing of aluminum and glass. Unfortunately, these materials also add to the weight of the device, but Apple has a solution to that in the form of a top strap, but in an unsurprising fashion, the firm will reportedly charge customers extra to experience that comfortable ‘immersion’ experience.

The Apple Vision Pro’s headband may only be a standard size, wearers may have to purchase those separately as well

The Apple Vision Pro is not made of plastic and will carry more weight than its competition, but a top strap can help mitigate this problem. Unfortunately, according to the details present in Mark Gurman’s Power On newsletter that was spotted by 9to5Mac, Apple is not going to let its customers off the hook by providing a freebie as there is a chance that they are charged for this piece too.

What this means is that the $3,499 might be the bare minimum they have to pay to acquire the headset, after which they might have to spend more on accessories, starting with the top strap. There is also a possibility that the existing headband that comes pre-attached to the Apple Vision Pro might be available in different sizes separately, but the company may only see fit to issue one size in the device’s packaging while charging extra if wearers have bigger heads.

Also, those who wear glasses could have a significantly worse deal as Apple has partnered with Zeiss to provide prescription lenses that can cost up to $600 for a pair. In short, when purchasing the Apple Vision Pro, the Cupertino giant has set up its product to force users to spend more. We also have to address the battery runtime, which Apple claims is two hours, meaning the company can charge you for separate pucks.

According to an earlier leak, the cable attached to the battery puck is proprietary and does not use USB-C, so there is no way of jerry-rigging an external battery pack to the headset to get more endurance. The Apple Vision Pro is not expected to go on sale until early 2024, so by then, we will have more information on how the company intends for its customers to pay beyond the $3,499 threshold, so stay tuned.
