Apple Watch Saves Life Just In The Nick Of Time By Notifying Wearer Multiple Times For Racing Pulse
Apple Watch Saves Life Just In The Nick Of Time By Notifying Wearer Multiple Times For Racing Pulse
May 20, 2024 12:35 AM

The Apple Watch has been credited on multiple occasions for either informing authorities or their owners of impending danger concerning their health. On this occasion, one wearer kept receiving notifications for a racing pulse, and after further diagnosis, it was found that the condition was severe and the result could have been fatal had the owner not sought medical attention immediately.

The Apple Watch was kept on ‘Do Not Disturb’ mode, and even then, the device continued to send notifications, much to the appreciation of the owner

A post on Reddit was published by user ‘digitalmofo,’ with AppleInsider reporting that the wearable was kept on ‘Do Not Disturb’ mode. For those that do not know, this mode prevents notifications from bothering you when you are sleeping, in an important meeting, watching a movie, or doing anything else. The Apple Watch owner said that he decided to take a quick nap, and later, when checking notifications, he found at least 10 of them informing him of a racing pulse. Naturally, he consulted a medical professional and provided the details below:

“Last week, I had my iphone/watch on dnd for work, and when I went on lunch I was kind of tired so I laid down on my couch for a quick nap. After the nap, I checked my notifications and had at least 10 that my pulse was racing. I called out the rest of the day and tried to lay around, but it didn't stop, so I scheduled a quick video with my Dr. My Dr had me check the times and pulse rates, had me check the oxygen and then went ahead and called 911 for me.

Severe internal bleeding, I had a little over 3 g/dL hemoglobin, and my normal is about 15. EMS originally said it was a heart attack, but it was GI bleeding. They said had I not got there for a transfusion when I did, I'd not have made it. So bless the Nurses, Drs, the people who gave blood and everybody who helped work on me, but I'd have just passed out and died without ever knowing if not for my apple watch.”

As you can tell, the diagnoses found that ‘digitalmofo’ was suffering from severe internal bleeding, and had he not received those notifications after his nap, the end could have been fatal. The Redditor also applauds the nurses, doctors, and others who provided him with blood that was necessary for an operation, so it is not just the Apple Watch’s contribution but also theirs that helped the owner of the wearable live another day.
