At its WWDC 2023 event, Apple announced its latest M2 Ultra chip with the launch of its Mac Studio and Mac Pro. The highest-end Apple Silicon is the company's fastest chip at the moment that delivers enhanced computational and graphical performance. It is now being reported that the SATA drives in the new Mac Pro might disconnect after the computer wakes up from sleep. The issue was highlighted in a support document published by Apple which means that the company is familiar with the issue and it is working on a fix.

Apple's 2023 Mac Pro with M2 Ultra chip is running into issues right after its launch, but there is a temporary workaround

The base model of the new Mac Pro powered by the M2 Ultra chip is priced at $6,999 and comes with a 24-core CPU and 60-core GPU conjoined with a 32-core Neural Engine. It would not be wrong to say that the Mac Launched with Hard Drive issues. Nonetheless, the company acknowledged the issue and stated that it is working on a fix. The company will release a macOS update in the future which will carry the fix.

If you are not familiar with the issue, the Mac Pro comes with SATA ports to connect to the internal hard drives. The bug rests on a software level that disconnects the hard drives when the Mac Pro wakes up from sleep. The weird bug is potentially hindering the workflow for users who just got their hands on the machine. It does not give a good impression if the machine behaves this way, considering the device just launched.

Early adopters can use a workaround to keep the issue at bay until the company releases an official fix. You can simply switch on the option for your 2023 Mac Pro to not sleep while on the power adapter when the display is off. Simply head over to System Settings > Displays > Advanced > and toggle on "Prevent automotive sleeping when display is off." Take note that this is a temporary fix, but it will do the trick for the time being. The company will release the macOS Ventura update in the coming weeks, which will fix the issue for good on the new M2 Ultra Mac Pro.

The 2023 Mac Pro is a very capable device, and it is the only Mac that supports PCI cards. If you do not require PCI cards for faster storage and networking, the Mac Studio with an M2 Ultra chip would be an equally good choice.
