The Find My feature can be used to track lost or misplaced items and can also be a godsend when using it to find your pets, assuming they were wearing AirTags. However, some people have taken it one step further, and according to one poll, several of them are using the feature to track the location of their spouse.
AirTags, which can also be tracked using Apple’s Find My network, can also potentially be used for the same activity, according to the poll
A poll was posted by one mother with the username ‘MoxieFox’ on the website BabyCenter, which has established a community for people seeking parenting and pregnancy tips. The details of the poll, as reported by AppleInsider, asked users if they regularly tracked their spouses. While some spouses responded that it is a convenience when using Find My to track their partners under normal circumstances, others may appear to have trust issues.
Out of 1021 votes, 27 percent were in favor of tracking their spouse, highlighting that it was meant for safety and convenience, though it is also possible that they want to track their spouse to see what they are up to. Regardless, 48 percent of people participating in the poll said ‘No,’ believing it to be a breach of privacy, as well as the fact that they would not appreciate it if the same practice was applied to them.
“My husband is traveling right now to see a friend. He’s been gone since Friday and will be home tomorrow. When talking about his trip to a friend she asked me why I don’t just track his location to see what he’s up to. I would never do this, but I’m curious how common it is. She insists it’s fairly common and if the technology exists why not just use it? I’m of the opinion that it’s a violation of privacy and even if DH agreed to it, sometimes less information is best. I also would not want to be tracked.”

As helpful as Apple’s AirTags, they can also be misused, with the Find My network used for stalking
Thankfully, those who responded that they would track their spouse also provided a decent excuse. For instance, they tracked down their partners to keep an eye on the time when preparing meals, creating schedules to pick up their children, or simply, they would need to know their location in case of an emergency.
However, some commenters have displayed the need to use Apple’s Find My feature to track their spouse out of sheer possessiveness. One member with the username Kelsey1231 stated that she had ‘threatened’ to throw an AirTag in the car, but she never fully commits. However, she admits that she tracks her parents using this technology, which is understandable due to their old age.
There have been various reports of AirTags being used for stalking purposes, with a recent incident involving two Australian travelers. Luckily, one anti-stalking measure that Apple has incorporated is a beeping sound when an AirTag is away from the owner for a long time, and that is what one of the travelers heard when narrating the incident. Where Apple’s Find My feature has been useful in countless scenarios, it is also a technology used for nefarious activities, such as tracking your spouse.
