Apple’s Product Launch Roadmap Shows A Massive 42-Inch OLED iMac In The Works, But It Will Arrive After Several Years-February 2024

Apple has plans to gravitate its entire Mac lineup to feature OLED technology, and while that will take several years to reach fruition, the company is expected to commence this transition with the iPad Pro launch in 2024. According to a product launch roadmap, there are also plans to mass produce a super-sized version of the iMac, which sports a 42-inch OLED panel.

42-inch OLED iMac might have extremely limited quantities, Apple to likely charge a premium for the increased screen real estate

Apple has never gone beyond the 32-inch display size barrier, with its largest product in this regard being the Pro Display XDR. As far as the iMac goes, the technology giant introduced a refresh of its ‘All in One’ computerfeaturing the M2 chipset, but its display size was retained at 21.5 inches. Fortunately, the company intends to offer a 42-inch version, one that will feature OLED technology, according to a roadmap shared by Revegnus, though the tipster does not mention where he stumbled across this information.

While no specifications are provided about the 42-inch iMac, its expected launch is in 2029, but that depends entirely on Apple’s plans, and that is not saying much, as the Cupertino firm had plenty of intended unveilings that did not happen, such as the iMac Pro. The Apple Silicon workstation was supposed to arrive shortly after the M1 iMac’s release. Also, the estimated quantity of the larger iMac is said to be around 500,000 units, indicating that it is likely a niche product that will be targeted to affluent customers for a premium price.

However, before the 42-inch OLED iMac’s inception, the roadmap suggests that Apple is working on a smaller 32-inch version, with its expected launch in 2028 or 2029. This model is also said to be produced in limited quantities, but given the bigger size, we expect Apple to use a high-resolution panel, along with powerful components and possibly ProMotion support, to justify the premium price tag.

We would also like to remind readers that just because a product launch is suggested by a leaked roadmap does not necessarily mean that Apple will release it in that specific time window. Often, such companies run into unscalable hurdles, and they need to pool their resources, talent, and efforts elsewhere. Still, if the company’s plans change regarding the 42-inch iMac launch, we will provide timely updates.
