Despite Dynamic Island And Other Major Upgrades, Demand For iPhone 15 Is Speculated To Be Lower Than iPhone 14
Jul 27, 2024 2:48 AM

Apple's standard iPhone 15 models are slated to receive major upgrades in terms of performance and design. The devices are expected to feature a Dynamic Island display with minor tweaks in the design of the camera layout. In our view, these additions would narrow the gap with the iPhone 15 Pro models. However, a prominent analyst now states that Apple's iPhone 15 models are speculated to feature lower demand than the iPhone 14 models.

iPhone 15 demand is expected to be lower than iPhone 14 despite major changes coming to the lineup

We have previously covered how Apple's iPhone 14 models were not selling well due to a lack of innovation in terms of design and functionality. The iPhone 14 featured an identical design to its predecessor, and even the chip powering the device was the same, making users choose the iPhone 13. Since Apple was selling the iPhone 13 for less, it made more sense for users to get it than the new model. Ultimately, this contributed as a major factor in the demand for the iPhone 14 being lower than expected. However, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo now suggests that the iPhone 15 will feature an even lower demand than the iPhone 14 this year.

It was recently reported that Apple could increase the price of the entire iPhone 15 lineup. While the standard models will not launch with a major price difference, the iPhone 15 Pro models could see a price hike of up to $200. The price increase is one of the reasons why the demand for the standard iPhone 15 models could fall short of expectations. With the price increase and ongoing inflation, users would lose their purchasing power and would be forced to stick to their current iPhone models for another year or so.

Nonetheless, there are several upgrades planned for the iPhone 15 models, such as the Dynamic Island cutout on the front, USB-C, and a new A16 Bionic chip similar to the iPhone 14 Pro models. Since inflation is affecting everyone, the bill of materials will rise, pushing Apple to increase the price of the iPhone 15 models as well. The company will not budge on compromising its profit margins which will lead to the end user paying more.

iPhone 15 Demand Lower Than iPhone 14 Due to Increased Price

The report does not mention if there will be an impact on the iPhone 15 Pro's demand following speculations of a major price hike. As mentioned earlier, Apple will potentially increase the price of the iPhone 15 Pro models by as much as $200. To compensate for the price, the iPhone 15 Pro models are expected to feature a grade 5 titanium finish, USB-C, upgraded camera setup, and a minor tweak in the overall design. One of the major changes coming to the iPhone 15 Pro lineup is slimmer bezels for a less intrusive user experience.
