The change in name from OS X to macOS was a long time coming, with things finally gettingofficial today at WWDC 2016's opening keynote. Apart from the mighty new features and name, macOS 10.12 Sierra beta is now available todownload immediately forall registered developers with Apple.

First and foremost, we highly recommend that you install macOS 10.12 beta on a Mac that does not serve the purpose as your daily driver. After all, you don't want to carry around a computer that's running the first ever beta release of a desktop OS. Secondly, it's unclear at this point how good or bad macOS performs on a MacBook when it comes to battery life. Be sure you keep those two things in mind before going ahead.

To get started, head over to the Apple Developer Program website and sign in. Once that is out of the way, click on the 'Discover' tab at the top. Click on 'macOS' in the list of available options at the top. You'll see a blue 'Download' button at the top right hand corner, click on it as well.

Click the 'Download' button next to macOS 10.12 beta, as shown in the screenshot below. Simply follow the on-screen instructions to compete the installation procedure. Also keep in mind that future macOS beta updates will be delivered to you using the Mac App Store from the Updates tab. Hence be sure to check back on a weekly basis if you have a new update lurking around.
