Eurasian Filing ‘Confirms’ 2018 iPhone 9 & Staggering 7 New iPads Running iOS 12
Jul 27, 2024 3:22 AM

Things are moving fast for the 2018 iPhone lineup as Apple seems to have entered the final round of its development prior to mass production. Sources expect that the devices will enter trial production this month, with full production commencing by the month of September.

Earlier this month, we saw a lot of Apple devices pass through the Eurasian Economic Commission. Soon after, Apple launched its upgrades to the MacBook Pro lineup. Now, the company has updated its filings, which hint upon this year's iPhone lineup. Head over below for the details.

Apple's Eurasian Economic Commission Filings Reveal Monikers For The 2018 iPhone 9, iPhone X(s), And iPhone X(s) Plus; Details For An iPad Refresh Also Present

This year, Apple's expected to launch three variants of the iPhone. Two of these will succeed the current OLED iPhone X, while the third will bring the company's proprietary True Depth camera set up on a lower price point due to an LCD display and other cost-cutting measures. The company's EEC filings are generally very reliable, as the MacBook Pro refresh demonstrates.

Now, we've got an update from this month's previous EEC filing, that reveals iOS 12 for the 2018 iPhone lineup and several new iPad models as well. Before we head into the details, it's important for you to understand Apple's model number scheme for its gadgets. The current iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and the iPhone X have the following names:

iPhone 8 - A1863, A1905, A1906, A1907iPhone 8 Plus - A1864, A1897, A1898, A1899iPhone X - A1865, A1901, A1902

With these in mind, take a look at the image below:

EEC Filings Reveal Codenames For The iPhone X's Upgrades And Potential iPhone 9 Alongside New iPads

The last row in the image above is for the iPhone lineup, and if you look closely, you'll see that several existing model numbers are already present. Additionally, the periods after A2103 suggest that the screenshot does not display the complete model list and misses out on the software as well. Fortunately, we're provided with the missing details. These, combined with the new models in the image bifurcate the upgrade into three categories:

A1920, A1921, A1984A2097, A2098, A2099A2101, A2103, A2104, A2105, A2106

Keep in mind that this is merely a tentative categorization and should not be taken as final. It does suggest three different categories of the iPhone upgrade and all these devices are also running iOS 12. Furthermore, the EEC filing also reveals seven different iPad models and a new MacBook model. These suggest that rumors for a low-cost MacBook refresh or one that's without the TouchBar might also be on Cupertino's cards.

Finally, the listing of seven different models complicates matters as Apple should by the best estimates launch two new iPads, which will end up in a total of four devices (WiFi+LTE). Whatever the case is, we'll find out soon enough. Till then, stay tuned and let us know what you think in the comments section below. We'll keep you updated on the latest.
