Facebook has seen fit to add a new feature in its mobile app which lets you see who is going to a local event that you might be attending and more. The update is available for both, iOS and Android so everyone can benefit from the functionality. In addition to this, the Discover People section also allows you to look around for people in your region with a common employer, school or any other thing. Let's dive in to see some more details on Facebook's newly added feature and how are we already familiar with it.
Facebook Adds A New Discover People Section Allowing You To Connect With Others
It all starts by tapping on an event through which you can scroll a list of profiles. Not all of the information regarding a specific profile will be available for you to see, instead only the one which is publicly available. In the end, it all depends on your choice of content to be displayed publicly. Moreover, when you visit the event's Facebook page, you can already see who is attending or interested in a particular event.
The criteria is the same if you're interested in looking for people. This is where things get familiar. You already have access to all of these approaches but in a different yet not so straight forward way. The company has simplified how you can see others' publicly available information and people themselves.
The new Discover People section can be found on the bottom of the navigation section. Once you enter the section for the very first time, you will be asked to provide your basic information through which it will be updating different sections of your public profile.
One interesting aspect to note here is that your befriended friends on Facebook will not be displayed in the section. Instead only those will appear who you do not know. This gives users an opportunity to connect with others, though we're not sure how this feature will sit among users taking privacy concerns into account. The Discover People was previously launched last year, however, it was only limited to Australia and New Zealand. The roll out has begun for users on iOS and Android, so stay put if it hasn't arrived on your handset just yet. There will be more to the story, so do stay tuned with us.
This is it for now, folks. What are your thoughts on Facebook's new Discover People section on its mobile app? Will it make things simpler for users? Share your thoughts in the comments.
