Samsung’s latest flagship is off to a roaring start, at least in the company’s home country of South Korea. According to the figures shared by the chaebol, the Galaxy Note 10 pre-orders have exceeded those of the Galaxy Note 9 family released last year. If the momentum continues, it will further help the Korean giant maintain its lead in the smartphone market.

South Korean Carriers Can Be Credited in Part for Note 10’s Initial Success

Samsung began taking Galaxy Note 10 pre-orders on August 9 and now, 11 days later, more than 1.3 million units of the phones have been pre-booked. This is twice the number of Galaxy Note 9 handsets that were pre-ordered. The figures include all the models of the Galaxy Note 10 range.Additionally, The Korea Herald reports thatSamsung revealed that the 256GB variant of the Galaxy Note 10 Plus in the color Aura Glow was the most sought after model.

Of course, it helps that the phones are being sold at a subsidized rate in South Korea. The country’s largest mobile carriers KT, SK Telecom, and LG Uplus have set aside subsidies ranging from 280,000 won or $232 to 450,000 won or $373 for the Note 10 phones depending on the plans. Of course, the more premium the plan, the higher the subsidies.

That being said, it has emerged that some KT outlets subsidized the phone to the tune of 700,000 won, which is massive, given the fact that the phone costs 1,100,000 won. Thus the Korea Communications Commission stepped in and said that this amount is illegal.

In the U.S. the Galaxy Note 10 starts at $949 and of course higher-end variants are much more expensive. Previously, Counterpoint Research had estimated that the sales of the Note 10 family will not vastly exceed those of its predecessor. Fortunately, given that the phone is off to a decent start, it will be interesting to see how everything plays out.

After all, the Galaxy Note 10 line will facestiffcompetition from the upcoming iPhones, the OnePlus 7T series, and Pixel 4 too, so we’re excited to see what the remainder of this year holds for Samsung in terms of its premium smartphone business.
