Galaxy S23 Ultra Lands On The 10th Spot In DxOMark Camera Rating
May 20, 2024 12:54 AM

The Galaxy S23 family is finally available to purchase today in all the countries where the phone is available. As expected, the Galaxy S23 Ultra will be the fan favorite thanks to its brand-new 200-megapixel camera that is supposed to take better pictures. Now, Samsung has always nailed the camera experience -I have been a loyal Samsung user since the days of S7 Edge, and the camera has always been excellent. However, popular and often notorious DxOMark thinks otherwise.

Galaxy S23 Ultra Ties with the Google Pixel 7 and Vivo X90 Pro+ in DxOMark's Camera Testing

DxOMark is an independent tester known for testing a lot of equipment but is notorious for its smartphone camera scores. The scores the publication gives are known for stirring up a lot of heated conversations in various forums, and now they are back with the Galaxy S23 Ultra, and some users might not agree.

The good thing is that DxOMark still manages to appreciate the camera on the new Galaxy S23 Ultra, highlighting how the device delivers consistent camera performance in all the features, excellent photo rendering with high detail level, excellent autofocus in both video and audio, and strong tele zoom performance at longer ranges.

However, the publication also talks about how the cameras on the Galaxy S23 Ultra suffer from loss of image detail when shooting in low light, along with shutter lag as well as exposure and focus instabilities when the scene is backlit.

Above is the summary of the Galaxy S23 Ultra's camera; honestly, the pros certainly outweigh the cons. But what about the overall camera score? Well, this is where things get a bit interesting as DxOMark has awarded the phone 140/149 score, which does sound pretty good, but it lands the phone on the 10th spot in global ranking and ultra-premium ranking.

The Galaxy S23 Ultra has tied for the 10th spot with Google Pixel 7 and Vivo X90 Pro+. While the number one spot is given to Huawei Mate 50 Pro, followed by Google Pixel 7 Pro.

Whether or not you believe in DxOMark scores is entirely up to you. I would still suggest you try out the camera on the latest phone on your own and decide whether you want to go for such a phone or not.
