Galaxy S23 Ultra’s Gorilla Glass Victus 2 Is Not Scratch-Resistant; Owner Claims Flagship Received ‘Micro-Abrasions’ While Kept In the Pocket-February 2024
Feb 12, 2026 3:00 AM

Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on the Galaxy S23 Ultra is said to provide drop protection of up to 1 meter on concrete and up to 2 meters on asphalt. Unfortunately, Corning may not have paid too much focus on its scratch-resistance because one owner of Samsung’s top-end flagship claims that the device received ‘micro-abrasions’ and that too while it was kept in his pocket.

Pocket was not stuffed with keys or coins, which may have damaged the Galaxy S23 Ultra’s display even further

Using his second phone’s flashlight, @AdamJMatlock on Twitter shows his audience that his Galaxy S23 Ultra suffered minor scratches while being kept in his pocket as he took a stroll to the grocery store. According to his statement, there were no other items kept in his pocket that would have otherwise caused irreparable damage to the screen. Though the Galaxy S23 Ultra can withstand burns and bends, it appears that its biggest weakness is against sharp objects.

It is possible that @AdamJMatlock’s pants may have had a few grains of sand, which caused those minor scratches on the Galaxy S23 Ultra, as sand has extremely abrasive properties. In any case, Corning and Samsung should look into this matter more carefully because if more cases like these get reported, the Korean giant may have to offer unconditional replacements.

Gorilla Glass Victus 2 is apparently also garbage. Surface abrasions galore from being in my pocket. Less than one day of use. #samsung #GalaxyS23Ultra pic.twitter.com/ntOXgdXS9e

The owner states that this issue materialized in a single day, and he was taking the utmost care of his Galaxy S23 Ultra. Even with a flagship, you cannot trust not having a high-quality screen protector applied as a first line of defense against scratches. After all, Corning likely prioritized drop protection instead of scratches, and this ended up happening. @AdamJMatlock has not stated in this tweet if he intends to approach Samsung with this issue.

However, if you plan on ordering the Galaxy S23 Ultra, do buy some high-quality screen protectors with your flagship purchase. Otherwise, you can regret the experience later when something similar happens.
