Galaxy Z Fold 5 Is Skipping On One Of The Best Features Of A Productivity Powerhouse-February 2024
Feb 12, 2026 3:11 AM

The most significant Galaxy Note feature was the S Pen. However, when Samsung finally put the Note series to rest after the Galaxy Note 20 devices, a lot of people wondered what would happen to the believed S Pen. The Galaxy S21 Ultra was the first non-Note phone to support the S Pen, however, it lacked the slot for it. Similarly, the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Fold 4 also have the support for an S Pen but without a slot. Now, it seems that even the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 5 will come without an S Pen slot.

Galaxy Z Fold 5 could potentially come without an S Pen Slot as Samsung runs into design limitations

Adding an S Pen slot in a standard, candy-bar style phone is a lot easier - you have the Galaxy S22 Ultra and the Galaxy S23 Ultra to prove that. But it seems that Samsung is having some issues doing the same for the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 5. According to the report from ET News, Samsung was working on the feature but decided to ditch the slot altogether because of design. The source also mentioned that adding the slot is entirely possible but will increase the thickness of an already thick phone.

The source also claims that Samsung is also working on a thinner S Pen without compromising on how it works, but it might not be ready in time for the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 5. A source closer to the outlet said the following:

“The hinge structure of the new foldable product has changed and the internal space structure has also changed, making it difficult to mount the S Pen."

Adding an S Pen slot is no small thing, especially in a foldable where there will be some complications in the process. For starters, this could affect the battery size, increase in thickness, or some other omissions from the device.

It is true that the Galaxy Z Fold 5 will make an excellent device to use an S Pen on, much like the predecessor, but at the time of writing, we are not sure if Samsung will manage to trim the thickness on the S Pen to make sure it slides easily into the chassis. Whatever the case is, we will be waiting to see how Samsung tackles this issue or decides to leave it altogether.

Let us know what your thoughts are on the Galaxy Z Fold 5 possibly not having an S Pen slot.
