Google Mocks Apple In Latest Ad, Implying That Innovation With The iPhone Has Hit A ‘Plateau,’ While Pixel Stands Above It In Features-February 2024
Feb 12, 2026 3:15 AM

Google has published a ‘#BestPhonesForever: Plateau’ ad on YouTube, in which it is taking subtle jabs at Apple for the lack of innovation push in its iPhones. In the ad, both the Pixel and an iPhone can be seen talking to each other, with the iPhone lamenting over its lack of features while the Pixel attempts to console it.

The iPhone compliments the Pixel for its vast array of features, and believes the only noteworthy thing about it are those ‘blue bubbles’

The ad starts with the Pixel asking its iPhone friend if it is feeling alright, after which the latter responds that it has turned 14 and it has started to notice things differently. Looking at the device’s design in the ad, it is likely the iPhone 14 Pro, and it says that when it was the Pixel’s age, it would be shown off to its friends, but the same opinion is not held today.

While the Pixel praises its companion and calls it ‘legendary,’ the iPhone believes that Google’s flagship has superior imaging capabilities, as it is able to capture sharper images, along with an astrophotography mode that can be activated in a few taps. Other features such as Call Assist, 30x zoom were also a part of the conversation, and just like how Google’s executives prattled the term AI during the I/O 2023 keynote, the iPhone also follows suit, saying how it is envious of the Pixel’s ‘AI.’

The Pixel attempts to make the iPhone feel better about its features by talking about those ‘blue messages,’ which is a reference to iMessage, but the handset says that it is the only thing it has to show for it. When the iPhone attempts to note its worth, saying that people would wait in line to purchase it, and it was the most popular device for over a decade, its battery dies, and with no Lightning charger in sight, the conversation between the two smartphones ends abruptly.

The Pixel lineup uses USB-C, negating the use of carrying more than one cable type, though that advantage will quickly dwindle as Apple will reportedly launch the iPhone 15 series with a USB-C port too. While the ad was clever, the shipment numbers tell a vastly different story, and when we compare both companies, they cannot be in the same conversation. To remind you, Google shipped around 9 million Pixel smartphones last year, while Apple was estimated to have shipped 70 million units in just the fourth quarter of 2022.
