Google Photos Is Getting A Bunch Of New AI Features To Make Organization Even Better-February 2024
Feb 12, 2026 7:04 PM

All Google Photos users can rejoice as the company has introduced a new feature for the app that will help them with the gallery organization in a much, much better way. You will be able to shelf similar photos together into groups, and you can even set reminders for upcoming events. On top of that, there are a few AI features that will make the app better on all platforms.

Google Photos could easily become my favorite gallery app with all these new features.

Once the rollout is done, Google Photos will be able to identify similar pictures in the gallery and stack them together. Google is calling this feature Photo Stacks, and the best thing is that AI is not always deciding which photos go together as the app grants you full control over how this is going to work. So, if you don't like the stacking that AI has done, you can just go ahead and do it manually. The company has even given you the option to turn this off.

Google Photos is also going to use AI to let you 'categorize screenshots and documents in your gallery into more helpful albums like ID, receipts and event information.' This should let you find screenshots without having to go through a lot of searching.

Moving forward, with the new AI features, Google Photos will be able to extract information about when an event is going to take place just by looking at a concert ticket, and not just that. It will add that to your calendar. It will even send you reminders as the event gets closer. In addition to that, the app will also be able to archive screenshots and documents after 30 days. This will ensure that your main gallery remains clutter-free, and you can access them in a separate folder.

Google Photos is currently receiving all these updates on both Android and iOS. Considering how this will be done in stages, it might take your device some time before you receive the update.

Honestly, I am really glad that Google is making wise use of AI. These features are something that I can see myself using a lot. I am currently using the OnePlus 10 Pro, and I feel that the gallery app on the device is seriously lacking, so I am going to give Google Photos a try and see how good it has become as compared to its contemporaries.
