The Tensor G3 ended up being a bitter disappointment from Google, despite being found in pricey flagships, as the SoC continues to be outperformed by the three-year-old chipset A14 Bionic. Fortunately, the company’s grand plans include developing its own chipset to rival what Apple mass produces every year for its iPhones, with one tipster stating that the Tensor G5 arriving in a couple of years will have a custom CPU and a self-made GPU too.
Tensor G4 may be a minor upgrade, but tipster states that there is a possibility that it is designed by Google
Developing a custom chipset is no simple task, with many phone makers having tried and failed miserably. We have learned that the Tensor G4 is not expected to deliver any significant upgrades over the Tensor G3, but according to @OreXda, a possibility exists where the CPU is either designed by Samsung or Google. With the Tensor G5, both the CPU and GPU might be developed by the advertising giant, putting it in the same league as Apple, though we cannot comment on its performance or efficiency.
However, a previous report stated that Google might switch to TSMC to mass produce the Tensor G5, likely due to the Taiwanese giant possessing better technology than its rival Samsung. Unfortunately, switching foundries will make fabricating the Tensor G5 more expensive, forcing Google to cut its margins or pass those cost increases to customers. Then again, if Samsung can prove that its next-generation manufacturing process is on par with TSMC, Google might stick with its original foundry.

At the earliest, the Tensor G5 is slated to arrive in 2025, so intricate details concerning its CPU and GPU are unknown at this time. This rumored launch timeline means that the fully custom chipset will arrive with the Pixel 10 and Pixel 10 Pro, assuming Google sticks with these two flagship releases. We also do not know the exact CPU cluster details or the number of roadblocks that Google may encounter in any part of the development stage, but whatever updates we receive, we will talk about them in depth.
