Here Is How Generative AI In Gmail Could Look Like-February 2024
Feb 12, 2026 2:53 PM

Generative AI is something that is here to stay. With ChatGPT already being used by countless users, and Google Bard also being available, albeit in a limited capacity. One simply cannot argue that generative AI is not going to go anywhere. Google recently announced that it will be bringing some really neat AI-powered features to Gmail, and today, we have our first look at how these features might work.

Gmail coupled with generative AI tools will be an excellent match for writing emails and having better productivity

With Gmail getting these AI features, you could ask AI to help you write an email, summarize a draft, put things in a bullet for you, and more. On paper, it seems like an excellent tool for anyone who wants to have a more productive time writing emails.

Now, folks over at 9to5Google have managed to enable the "Help me write" option on the compose screen in the latest version of Gmail. The button shows a sparkly wand icon instead of the pen that we saw when Google initially announced this feature. Once you tap the button, it opens a text box that allows you to tell Gmail what you want it to write for you. In case your prompt is not long enough, you will be told to keep writing, and once you write more, you can just go ahead and tap "Create." This is how it looks.

Considering the features are not officially rolling out now, you cannot do anything with this discovery. However, it is actually nice to see that Google is finding new ways to make Gmail even more intuitive for everyone going forward.

Gmail will also have another AI-powered option that will refine your messages. It works as it sounds, to be honest, and it is an excellent tool for anyone who writes an email and then remains confused about whether or not it is appropriate enough to send.

Sadly, we don't have any word on when these features are going to roll out. Google did mention that these features will start rolling out to "Trusted testers" throughout the year, but of course, will be limited at first before going widespread. The features are going to be available in Gmail and Google Dogs.

Considering the popularity of generative AI and just how widely Gmail is used around the world, it seems like a no-brainer that Google is working on such an option. We are looking forward to seeing what other exciting things the new AI features can do.
