Here’s the Real Reason OnePlus Did Not Add Wireless Charging to the OnePlus 6
Here’s the Real Reason OnePlus Did Not Add Wireless Charging to the OnePlus 6-February 2024
Feb 12, 2026 1:26 AM

Nearly every high-end smartphone features wireless charging and with OnePlus slowly but surely increasing the pricing of its smartphones with every passing year, the OnePlus 6should have come with this feature.

The company has managed to come into the spotlight despite releasing a single handset every year, and one could say that it is following the same thing that Apple is doing by focusing its time and efforts on a limited smartphone range. Regardless, OnePlus missed out on a crucial feature this year and the phone manufacturer explains why it made this decision.

OnePlus 6 Did Not Need Wireless Charging - Phone Still Comes With a Glass Back

When Business Insider decided to ask a OnePlus representative why the OnePlus 6 does not feature wireless charging, here is what the individual had to say.

“We don't really feel the need to add wireless charging. We're not going to add a feature just for the sake of it.”

It is 2018 and for a company like OnePlus, it should have been important to add such a feature. Keep in mind that the OnePlus 6 features a starting price $529 and goes up all the way up to $629, crossing the $600 range and entering the realm of the ‘not so cheap’ smartphones. Still, the company has allocated resources and hired talent to work on its OxygenOS, which is a clean and extremely fluid user interface, as we experienced in our OnePlus 5T review.

None of the models feature expandable storage but you will be pleased to know that the handset comes with 6GB RAM and 64GB of UFS 2.1 onboard storage for the base model. It also comes with a taller Optic AMOLED panelwith a 2,280 x 1,080 resolution in a 19:9 aspect ratio.

The smartphone does not feature an in-display fingerprint reader, but we are sure to see it in the successor. Do you feel that the OnePlus 6 experienced a missed opportunity by not incorporating wireless charging? Tell us down in the comments.
