Google patched some critical security vulnerabilities in the latest Android December security updates. We have already shared with yousteps toinstallthe latest updates on Google Pixel devices. You can use the same steps for manually installing Android 7.1.1 NMF26Q (links) released yesterday. Once you have updated your device to Android 7.1.1 Nougat, here are the steps to root Google Pixel with the latest SuperSU version.
Prerequisites to rootGoogle Pixelon Android 7.1.1
Create a backupof all important data on your Pixel device.Download and installUSB driversfor Pixel onyour computer.Your Pixel device should beupdated to latest Android7.1.1 Nougat.TheGoogle Pixelbootloadershould be unlocked.Enable USB debugging option by pressingMenu>Settings>Applications. Navigate and tap onDeveloper Optionsto enableUSB Debugging.Ensure that your Pixel phone carries more than 70% of charge.
Warning:Rooting voids manufacturer warranty. SuperSU is also still in "service release" and TWRP in "alpha" mode, so please proceed at your own risk since some of the functions may not work as expected. For changelog and more technical details, visit this postby Chainfire. TWRP support here.
Steps to root Google Pixel on Android 7.1.1 Nougat
Required files:
DownloadAndroid SDKand install it. Set it up withplatform-tools and USBdriverspackage inSDK.DownloadSuperSU v2.78SR5 for your Google Pixel on your PC.Make sure to download TWRP image and zip filesTWRP Alpha 2IMG(alpha 1, if alpha 2 doesn't work)TWRP Alpha 2ZIPAlso, downloadFastboot from the following links, depending on your OS andextract it inandroid-sdk-windows\platform-toolsdirectory. Create directory if not already there.Windows:DownloadMac:DownloadLinux:Download
Step 1:Connect yourGoogle Pixel toyour computer via USB.
Step 2:Copy and pasteSuperSu and TWRP zip files to your device's SD card root folder.
Step-3:Reboot inthe Bootloader mode: gotoandroid-sdk-windows\platform-toolsdirectoryand open Command Prompt (Shift+Right-click>Open Command Prompt) and type the following command:
adb reboot bootloader
(You can also turn off your phone and then hold downVolume Downkey while powering it back on to get into the Bootloader mode.)
Step 4:Once in bootloader mode, run the following command (replace the italicized text with alpha1, if you downloaded the earlier version of TWRP):
fastboot boottwrp-3.0.2-0-alpha2-fastboot-sailfish.img
Step 5:You'll now be in the TWRP recovery mode.Select Installand choose the TWRP installer zip file. Then,Swipe to Confirm Flashat the bottom of the screen to start the installation process.
Step 6:Reboot your Google Pixel into recovery mode.
Step 7:In the recovery mode, tap on Install and select the SuperSU zip file downloaded earlier. Swipe to confirm flashing.
Step 8:After installation is completed, confirm Reboot System.
