Microsoft’s Surface Pro 5 has been rumored to use the same connectors as the 2015 version, suggesting that it’s expected to be just an iterative upgrade over the predecessor. This is where Huawei can capitalize with its upcoming MateBook models, and according to the latest image leak, the company is said to be working on not one, but three different variants.

Two Models, the MateBook X and MateBook D Look Like Fully-Functional Notebooks in the Latest Image Leak

According to both Evan Blass and Roland Quandt, there are going to be a total of three different models from Huawei and they have been listed as follows:

While the MateBook E looks like the direct successor to the company’s original 2-in-1, the remaining two models looks like fully-functional notebooks, to be honest. That is actually a good approach because a laptop form factor means that the machine will be able to house better hardware and allow the user to expand the primary components such as RAM and storage (if they are not soldered onto the mainboard) later down the road.

According to a leaked Geekbench score, one of the Huawei MateBook models has been codenamed ‘Pascal’ and features an i5-7200U processor coupled with 8GB of RAM. We suspect that this particular machine is the base model and that users will be able to upgrade the hardware if they want more performance from it, though that will drive up the price.

Since there are rumors that the Surface Pro 5 will not feature a Thunderbolt 3, Huawei can take advantage of this by incorporating a port that will give the user maximum throughput when it comes to attaching secondary displays and hooking up an eGPU. Previously, a different report stated that Huawei was working on two MateBook models and out of the blue, we see three of them listed.

That being said, take the aforementioned information with a pinch of salt. It is possible that Huawei announces the Surface Pro 5 competitors at this year’s Computex trade show, so we’ll have all the necessary information for our readers.
