Huawei is said to introduce three new P70 flagships in 2024, with one of them uniquely named the P70 Art. Judging by the name alone, it will be the Chinese firm’s most feature-enriched and likely the most expensive out of the trio. One analyst is positive about the upcoming launch, believing that if this smartphone demand trajectory is maintained, the new series will considerably outsell the P60 lineup. Some key specifications of all P70 members were also shared, with the P70 Art said to receive the most impressive camera lens configuration that is up to 5 times more expensive than the 7P version.
The P70 Art will have an expensive lens thanks to the adoption of molded glass; all models have the potential to outsell the P60 lineup by 230 percent
The P70, P70 Pro, and P70 Art can reach shipments of up to 15 million units, resulting in a 230 percent year-over-year growth, according to TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. With this growth, Largan and Sunny Optical, Huawei’s high-end lens suppliers, will benefit greatly. Kuo also notes that the primary selling points of the P70 series will be the camera and new Kirin chipsets, but the analyst does not mention if Huawei intends to re-use the Kirin 9000S from this year or mass produce an entirely different silicon.
On paper, the camera specifications of all P70 models look impressive, but the P70 Art takes the win here as it is rumored to adopt a 1/1-inch CIS paired with a hybrid 1GP6 lens. The lens alone is between four and five times more expensive than a 7P variant, and that is due to the molded glass. In any case, the aforementioned suppliers will greatly benefit from their partnership with Huawei. The rest of the camera specifications are detailed below:
“The key selling points of the P70 series camera specifications are: 1) Adopting a telephoto periscope lens. The P70 uses a 5P lens (1/3.6-inch), and the P70 Pro and P70 Art use a 6P lens (1/2.5-inch), and 2) the wide camera of the P70 Art uses a high-end 1/1-inch CIS with a hybrid 1G6P lens, with the 1G6P lens commanding a price about 4–5 times that of a 7P lens due to the adoption of molded glass. It is worth mentioning that since Largan and Sunny Optical make the molding glass, it benefits profits.”
Huawei was previously forecasted to ship 100 million smartphone units in 2024, and according to Kuo’s prediction, a percentage of that will belong to the P70 family. Shortly after, the Mate 70 range could contribute to that figure too. Despite just being limited to China, the former giant has proven that it can grow without partnering with companies that have been put under the U.S. export control list, and once more, the majority of the components could be sourced locally.
