The guys over at OCLab.RU were able to get hands on an Intel Haswell engineering sample and have run a few benchmarks of the chip comparing it against the Core i7-3770K in a clock-to-clock testing session.
First Intel Haswell Benchmark Tests Appear
The Intel Haswell engineering sample had the B0 stepping and was notably ran on an Z87 chipset motherboard. The site didn't mention the brand or model the used for the test. Since the Intel Haswell ES chip was clocked at 2.8 GHz, the team had to downclock the Core i7-3770K for a fair benchmark comparison. Following is the testbed used:
Intel Core Haswell @2.8 GHzIntel Core [email protected] GHzCorsair Dominator 2666 MHz @ 1333 MHz CL9-9-9-27Power supply Corsair AX1200SSD Corsair Neutron 240 GBWindows 7 x64
It should be noted that the CPU is still in ES state so performance is not representative of the final product. Yet, it shows the kind of performance one can expect from the 4th generation Intel Haswell core architecture. Starting with SuperPI, the Intel Haswell ES was a second slower than the 3770K in 1M test but was relatively faster in the 32M test where itsucceededthe 3770K with a 22 second lead. In PI Fast test, the Intel Haswell CPU end up with a 1.5 second lead and a similar lead in WiPrime 32M/1024M tests. You can see a better format of the results below:
Super PI 32M
Haswell: 11 minutes 27.505 secondsIvy Bridge: 11 minutes 49.094 seconds
Super PI 1M
Haswell: 14,1 secondsIvy Bridge: 13,1 seconds
PiFast
Haswell: 24,01 secondsIvy Bridge: 25,5 seconds
Wprime 32M
Haswell: 12.8x secondsIvy Bridge: 13.97 seconds
Wprime 1024M
Haswell: 7 minutes 11.181 secondsIvy Bridge: 7 minutes 11.8xx seconds
While these results are not as great as anticipated, it should be noted again that this was just a ES sample test. The final Intel Haswell retail chips would not only boost upto 10-15% better IPC performance but also deliver faster iGPU performance by pushing the improvement by 40%. The Haswell CPU lineup along with the Core i7-3770K'ssuccessor"Core i7-4770K" which are already under mass production would launch on 2nd June officially along with the 8-Series chipset based motherboards.
