Intel Reaffirms 14th Gen Meteor Lake Ramp & CPU Launch In 2H 2023, Arrow Lake & Lunar Lake In 2024-February 2024

Intel has once again reaffirmed the launch of its 14th Gen Meteor Lake CPUs in 2H 2023 followed by Arrow Lake & Lunar Lake in 2024.

Intel 14th Gen Meteor Lake CPU Ramping Now, Launch In 2H 2023 Followed By Arrow Lake & Lunar Lake In 2024

Although this isn't the first time that we are hearing of a 2H 2023 launch for Meteor Lake CPUs, it is yet another confirmation by the company that the chips are on schedule and heading to clients and customers later this year.

Chipzilla has said that Intel 4 process node which will be powering the 14th Gen Meteor Lake CPUs is ramping in production with a hard launch scheduled for the second half of this year. Intel is also expecting that the timely launch of Meteor Lake CPUs will result in higher PC market share gains vs its competitors. Future chip families including Arrow Lake and Lunar Lake are also expected to go into full production by 2024 and will utilize the next-gen 20A and 18A process nodes when they're launched.

Relative to five nodes in four years, notably, two out of these five nodes, Intel 7 and Intel 4, are now essentially done. Intel 7 is in high-volume manufacturing, and Meteor Lake on Intel 4's ramp in production wafer starts today for a second-half product launch.

Our Client Computing business continues to execute on this roadmap and build on recent market share wins. We gained overall PC market share in Q1 and expect our competitive position to continue to improve as we ramp Meteor Lake production in Q2 for a launch in second half.

Second, executing on our Data Center and AI roadmap, including the Sapphire Rapids ramp; the launch of Emerald Rapids in the second half of '23, and Granite Rapids and Sierra Forest in 2024. Third, ramping Meteor Lake in second half '23, and launching Arrow Lake and Lunar Lake in 2024.

So 20A and 18A are the next ones up. 20A will be primarily a client node as we ramp our Arrow Lake products in '24 and '25. 18A will be everything.

Intel's Q1 2023 Earnings Call

According to Intel, the 14th Gen Meteor Lake CPUs will feature a brand new tiled architecture, and what this basically means is that the company has decided to go full-on chiplet. There are 4 main tiles on the Meteor Lake CPUs. There's the IO Tile, the SOC Tile, the GFX Tile & the Compute Tile. The Compute Tile comprises the CPU Tile and GFX Tile. The CPU Tile will be making use of a new hybrid core design consisting of Redwood Cove P-Cores and Crestmont E-Cores, delivering higher-performance throughput at lower power.

Intel Meteor Lake CPUs Reportedly Target Over 50% Performance Per Watt & 2x IGPU Gains 2

But that's not all, the leaker also points out that Intel's Meteor Lake CPUs might get twice the GPU performance boost thanks to the new tGPU or Tiled-GPU architecture which will incorporate new Xe GPU cores. The specific configuration is said to include 128 Execution units running at over 2.0 GHz clock speeds.

As Raja Koduri stated, the Meteor Lake CPUs will be utilizing a tiled Arc graphics-powered GPU which will make it an entirely new class of graphics on a chip. It's neither an iGPU nor a dGPU & currently regarded as tGPU (Tiled GPU / Next-Gen Graphics Engine). The Meteor Lake CPUs will utilize the brand-new Xe-HPG graphics architecture, allowing for increased performance at the same level of power efficiency as existing integrated GPUs. This will also enable enhanced support for DirectX 12 Ultimate and XeSS, features that are only supported by the Alchemist lineup as of right now.

Once again, the Intel 14th Gen Meteor Lake CPUs will be launching on mobile platforms first and there might also be a desktop release next year if everything goes according to plan.
