It was initially rumored that iOS 17 would be a minor update as Apple's main focus would be the platform's 'maintenance'. It was later reported that the update will bring major changes to the table, which includes a revamped Control Center and Lock Screens customization options. Furthermore, Apple is also working on fresh apps to bundle with the forthcoming update. It is now being stated that iOS 17 will include a redesigned Lock Screen interface for Maps. Scroll down to read more details on the subject.
iO 17 to bring a dedicated Maps interface on the Lock Screen with turn-by-turn directions
According to the latest, iOS 17 will feature a dedicated Lock Screen interface for Apple Maps, offering turn-by-turn directions without taking the entirety of the screen. The information was shared by leaker @analyst941 on Twitter, suggesting that the feature is confirmed to arrive with the release of iOS 17 later this year. The feature is slightly different than what iOS 16 brought to the table with real-time directions provided by Maos in the Lock Screen.
The leaker shared a conceptualized image that showcases how Maps would take half of the portion of the screen to show directions while the rest of the space is reserved for time and widgets. Potentially, Maps would become part of the Lock Screen with real-time updates. This is because, according to the image, notifications are overlapping the Maps interface. Additionally, the camera and flashlight shortcut also rest in their respective positions. It is not yet clear if users will be able to interact with the Maps interface. You can access the notifications by swiping up on the Lock Screen. You can check out the image above for more details:
We have previously heard numerous times that Apple will redesign the Control Center but a dedicated Maos interface on the Lock Screen is fresh. We have also noted that iOS 17 will come with an updated Wallpaper View along with Wallet and Health apps. While Mark Gurman is skeptical of the claims put forth by the leaker, Apple will share the final details when iOS 17 is announced at the WWDC 2023 event in a few weeks. It remains to be seen if the new Lock Screen interface for Maps will also be available for other apps. The leaker also states that the feature will be available on all iPhone models.
Apart from iOS 17, iPadOS 17 is also rumored to enhance the Stage Manager feature on supported iPad models. The tablet will feature webcam support for the Stage Manager feature on external displays. Take note that it is too early to draw conclusions as the final word rests with Apple. We will share more details on the platform as soon as further details are available.
