Today has been quite an eventful day with regards to Apple and their multiple announcements. Apple unveiled new devices at Yerba Buena Center for Arts in San Francisco California earlier today. Moreover it made some announcements that we had anxiously been awaiting.

One of the announcements was related to the public release of iOS 6. Merely an hour after the event ended, iOS 6 GM build was released in the Developer Center, from where it can be downloaded by registered developers.

It is worth adding here that beta software, as well as the GM build, is only available to registered developers. Such software is not rolled out publicly and is not intended for use by folks other than developers. One can get registered in the developer program by paying an annual fees of $99, which gives unlimited access to beta software.

For those of you who are unaware of what exactly a GM or Gold Master build is, its the final version seeded to developers just before the public release. Little changes are made after the release of GM build to the public version of said software.

Apple has already revealed that iOS 6 final release for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch is taking place on September 19. iOS 6 will be available for iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPod touch 4G, New iPad and the iPad 2. Currently the GM build can be downloaded and tested on these devices by registered developers.

iOS 6 does support over the air updates, however if you're running a previous beta of iOS 6, the GM build is not available over the air. You will have to manually download full iOS 6 GM IPSW from Developer Center.
