iPhone 15 Lineup’s Transition To USB-C Can Mean Apple’s 20W Chargers Will See Up To A 40 Percent Increase In Shipments This Year
iPhone 15 Lineup’s Transition To USB-C Can Mean Apple’s 20W Chargers Will See Up To A 40 Percent Increase In Shipments This Year-February 2024
Feb 12, 2026 9:45 AM

Apple’s iPhone 15 series is said to be the first from the company to transition from Lightning to the USB-C interface, bringing immense convenience for potential buyers who had to carry around a mix of cables and chargers previously. For Apple, it will be another opportunity, as one analyst believes that the company’s 20W USB-C chargers sales may see up to a 40 percent shipments increase in 2023.

Analyst believes that for customers, Apple’s 20W USB-C charger is an affordable option and will likely come in handy when upgrading to the iPhone 15

In his latest Medium post, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo provides predictions for Apple’s 20W USB-C charger, which is currently available to purchase for $19 in the U.S. Comparing the company’s other accessories, the power brick is actually reasonably priced, with Kuo claiming that Apple has increased the total shipment forecast of its USB-C adapter by an enormous 120 percent for the second and third quarter of 2023.

Kuo predicts that the reason for this forecast increase is the iPhone 15 lineup’s launch, which is said to include a total of four models, all sporting a USB-C interface, thus ditching the Lighting variant. The new launch could mean Apple will witness between a 30-40 percent year-over-year growth of its 20W USB-C chargers, with around 230-240 million units expected to be shipped this year.

iPhone 15 USB-C charger

Apple currently offers a 20W USB-C charger on its website, available for $19 in the U.S.

Apple has also cleverly designed its $19 power brick to plug in only a single device at a time, meaning that customers will have to purchase more chargers if they intend to top up their iPhone 15 purchases at different locations. Additionally, since the adapter price is pale compared to what the iPhones will cost when they officially launch later this year, Apple would have successfully convinced consumers to spend just a little more on these 20W USB-C chargers, resulting in even more revenue generation.

“Another potential factor driving the robust replacement demand could be that future iPhone 15 users might purchase more than one Apple 20W USB-C charger to meet the need for more charging locations.”

Apple will most likely sell official USB-C-to-USB-C cables for the iPhone 15 family, and since these are MFi certified, users will experience higher data transfer speeds and maximum wattage output with this accessory. The company currently sells 1-meter and 2-meter USB-C-to-USB-C cables on its website at the same price as the 20W charger, so in a single attempt, Apple is getting customers to spend around $38 more when they secure an iPhone 15 purchase.
