iPhone 15 Pro to Ditch Solid-State Buttons But Could Come With an Action Button Instead of The Mute Switch-February 2024
Feb 12, 2026 4:49 PM

Apple will announce the new iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro with a plethora of forward-facing additions. The standard models are slated to feature an upgraded display with Dynamic Island with a boatload of other changes. We have previously reported numerous times that the iPhone 15 Pro models will come with unified solid-state buttons. It was recently reported that the company will move away from the solid-state solution due to technical issues. The latest news suggests that the iPhone 15 Pro will feature physical Volume and Power buttons, but the Mute Switch will be replaced with a button. Scroll down to read more details on the matter.

iPhone 15 Pro to feature Apple Watch Ultra-like Action Button instead of the traditional Mute Switch

According to Unknownz21, the iPhone 15 Pro models will continue to feature physical buttons, but the Mute Switch will be replaced with an Apple Watch Ultra-like Action button. News related to solid-state buttons on the iPhone 15 Pro is going back and forth, with some sources citing technical issues. The latest suggests that the iPhone 15 Pro will no longer hours a mute slider switch as it will be replaced with a customizable button. Take note that the Action button will be mechanical.

If we take Ming-Chi Kuo's words into consideration, the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max will house the same button layout as the current iPhone 14 Pro models. What this means is that the buttons will be mechanical without additional Taptic Engines. However, if earlier reports are to be believed, we could still see solid-state buttons on the forthcoming flagship. Since the iPhone 15 launch is months away from now, Apple could alter its plans and come up with a new solution as it sees fit.

iPhone 15 Pro Action Button Instead of Mute Switch Launch

Other than the Volume and Power button, we also reported that Apple is looking to say its salutations to the Mute Switch. Instead of the Mute Switch, the company will incorporate a solid-state button that can be customized to perform different tasks. This is the same approach that Apple used with the Apple Watch Ultra's Action button. To be fair, the Action button on the iPhone makes a lot of sense as it will give users more control over their device's functionality. However, the Mute Switch has been present on the iPhone for a long time.

We have previously seen how the elongated Volume buttons and Power buttons will look in a mockup video. Take note that the final word rests with Apple, so be sure to take the news with a grain of salt. Do you think Apple will ditch the Mute Switch on its forthcoming flagships in favor of an Action button? Let us know in the comments below.
