The iPhone 15 family is said to enter mass production in August, not July, as previously reported, though the number of units dedicated for customers in the fourth quarter of 2023 is almost the same. However, the analyst who predicted this mass production timeline also has a warning for consumers to prepare their wallets, as they may have to spend extra to get the company’s ‘top of the line’ iPhone 15 Pro Max.
Around 84 million new iPhone 15 units will be made for the second half of 2023
The August timeline prediction was made by Jeff Pu, an analyst of Haitong Research, according to 9to5Mac. Pu also believes that Apple’s supply chain has been informed to mass produce 84 million new units to be made for the second half of 2023 but did not specify which specific model will command how many shipments. However, given that the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max are said to have more exclusive upgrades this year than the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max that launched in 2022, these two will likely be produced in greater numbers.
Previously, we reported that Apple informed its supply chain to mass produce around 89 million iPhone 15 units for the fourth quarter of the year, making it 14 percent higher than last year, so Pu’s prediction reveals a smaller estimate. However, even with the lowered shipments tally, the ‘84 million’ statistic is 12 percent higher compared to last year, with Apple and its supply chain anticipating high demand for the newer models. Pu also states that consumers will have to pay more for the iPhone 15 Pro Max but did not divulge the exact figure.
Only yesterday, we learned that the iPhone 15 Pro Max is rumored to ship with a 4,852mAh battery, making it 12 percent larger than the capacity found on the iPhone 14 Pro Max, and yet another exclusive upgrade that will likely force consumers to pick it up. Aside from that, the iPhone 15 Pro Max will be the only model in the entire series to feature a periscope zoom lens, allowing the flagship to capture imaging and video data at a higher optical zoom range than any iPhone before it, jumping to 6x compared to 3x.
Pu did not go in-depth about when the iPhone 15 family could launch, but looking at Apple’s previous launch schedules, the company will likely choose the first or second week of September to make the grand unveiling. Foxconn is expected to remain the chief assembler of all iPhone 15 models, but Luxshare and Pegatron will undertake some responsibility as Apple may require backups later in the year as demand picks up.
