Apple is ready to host its WWDC event, where it will announce a plethora of software updates and a bunch of new products. Last year, the company announced its M2 MacBook Air at the WWDC event. This year, the company is looking to introduce a bigger variant of the notebook with the same specifications and design. While the company also plans to announce the iPhone 15 series in September, details leaks and rumors related to the iPhone 16 Pro models have been plenty. According to the latest, the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will feature a taller display aspect ratio, and iPhone 17 models will follow the pattern.
Apple's iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max display will be taller rather than wider in terms of aspect ratio
According to display analyst Ross Young, the iPhone 16 Pro models will feature a taller aspect ratio (via MacRumors). We have previously covered that Apple plans to increase the display size on the 'Pro' models starting next year. The iPhone 16 is reported to feature a 6.3-inch display, while the bigger iPhone 16 Pro Max or iPhone 16 Ultra will come with a 6.9-inch iPhone. While next year's iPhone models will feature the biggest screen size on an iPhone, it was not clear if the company was looking to make the iPhone taller or wider.
Ross Young holds a credible track record, and if the news has any heft to it, the iPhone 16 Pro models will feature a taller design rather than wider. Currently, the iPhone 14 Pro models feature a 19.5:9 aspect ratio. This year's iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max will feature the same display aspect ratio as the iPhone 14 lineup. With the potential screen sizes in hand, we can speculate that the display on the iPhone 16 Pro models will be roughly 2.5 percent bigger than the current iPhone 15 Pro models.

Apart from iPhone 16 Pro display aspect ratio, Young also claims that iPhone 17 Pro models will follow the taller iPhone trend as well. Take note that the taller aspect ratio and the bigger displays are only rumored for the 'Pro' iPhone models. What this means is that the standard iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus will feature the same display aspect ratio and size as the current models.
However, it is too early to draw conclusions as the iPhone 16 launch is more than a year away. Apple will announce iOS 17 at its WWDC event next week, which will introduce the new Smart Display functionality for iPhone models with an Always-On display. The feature would benefit from the bigger displays.
