MediaTek Helio P15 Officially Announced, Succeeds Helio P10 With Faster Clock Speeds and More
May 9, 2024 3:39 AM

MediaTek has already announced its high-end SoC lineup, which includes the likes of Helio X30, Helio P20 and Helio P25. For manufacturers that want to target the mid-ranged market, MediaTek has another surprise for them and it comes in the form of Helio P15. Helio P15 is going to succeed the old Helio P10, but you will notice that there are a lot of similarities between the two chipsets.

Helio P15 and Helio P10 Are Manufactured on the Same 28nm Architecture – Former Delivers More Performance Thanks to Improved Clock Speeds

With Samsung announcing its highly advanced 10nm FinFET architecture for future smartphones and tablets, MediaTek will using this announcement to its advantage with its Helio P15. On paper, the chipset might feel like there’s not much difference compared to Helio P10, but that’s only because they’ve been manufactured on the 28nm architecture. Manufacturers who want to price their handsets at a lower bracket will opt for Helio P15 because it will save them humongous costs in the end.

With newer lithographic manufacturing processes being introduced, 28nm SoCs are only going to become cheaper. According to MediaTek, Helio P15 will offer a 10 percent performance increase over its predecessor because of the higher clock speeds. The newly announced chipset features an octa-core Cortex-A53 CPU running at a frequency of 2.20GHz. The processor will further be supplemented by an ARM-Mali T860 GPU (MP2) running at a speed of 800MHz.

We see that a rather weak GPU has been retained by MediaTek, but in all honesty, this was expected. In comparison, Helio P10 harbors the same octa-core configuration, but all cores have a maximum clock speed of 2.00GHz, while the same GPU is limited to a maximum frequency of 700MHz. The company has also stated that Helio P15 provides support for a Cat. 6 LTE modem, but failed to mentioned the amount of RAM it will be able to support.

The chipset manufacturer also forget to point out when its latest SoC will be running in smartphones and tablets, but we figure that is going to be a tale for another time. Tell us on what your thoughts on the latest mobile chipset are.
