Just a few days after the first preview of the AMD Radeon 780M RDNA 3 iGPU, ETA Prime has made a full video where he covers the gaming performance of the chip across multiple AAA games & calls it the best iGPU yet.

AMD Radeon 780M RDNA 3 iGPU Delivers Exceptional Gaming Performance Across Multiple AAA Titles, First Laptops Expected This Week

The last preview showcased some impressive numbers with the AMD Radeon 780M iGPU delivering over 60 FPS at 1080p in games such as Cyberpunk 2077. This is a huge leap for integrated graphics as they are getting close to the point where they can replace entry-level discrete solutions. There's a reason why NVIDIA isn't expected to invest any more in its MX line of GPUs since both AMD & Intel are prepping some powerful integrated chips for future laptop designs.

The laptop used is a 2023 ASUS TUF A15 which features the AMD Ryzen 9 7940HS APU. This CPU features 8 cores, 16 threads, a base clock of 4.0 GHz, a boost clock of 5.2 GHz, a 40 MB total cache, and an integrated RDNA 3 GPU known as the Radeon 780M with 12 Compute Units operating at up to 2800 MHz.

We have already seensynthetic benchmarks for the AMD Radeon 780M iGPU but it's time we focus on the gaming benchmarks. The laptop features 32 GB of DDR5-4800 memory which was tuned to run at DDR5-5600 and the chip can technically support much faster memory with up to LPDDR5 at 7500 Mbps which should deliver even faster performance. Based on ETA Prime's evaluation, AMD's Radeon 780M iGPU can match and even exceed the performance of the desktop GeForce GTX 1060 6 GB graphics card which is still very popular among gamers and ranks in at 3rd spot on the Steam Hardware Survey.

Starting off with the benchmarks, the first game tested is the Vanilla version of Skyrim without any mods which is capped at 120 FPS so users can really take advantage of higher refresh rate displays and enjoy older titles with buttery smooth performance on integrated graphics.

The synthetic benchmarks for the AMD Radeon 780M RDNA 3 iGPU also saw a small uptick in performance with the chip hitting close to 3000 points in the 3DMark Time Spy benchmark as posted below:

Throughout the game and synthetic benchmarks, the AMD Ryzen 9 7940HS didn't break past the 70W CPU package power limit which is really good. Now we have seen that a lot of manufacturers are still going to feature discrete GPUs onto Phoenix laptops but we hope that there are iGPU-only options available too as most users would like to have an efficient machine that can deliver higher battery times. Plus not everyone wants a discrete GPU inside their laptop when the iGPU is able to do the job well for them.

Now it is very important to know that all of these gaming benchmarks are based on BETA drivers for the AMD Radeon 780M iGPU. The RDNA 3 chip should receive the first proper Adrenaline GPU drivers when the laptops start hitting shelves later this week so we can expect even better RDNA 3 graphics performance. But despite that, the 780M totally outclasses every iGPU to date, and games that were previously only runnable on lower graphics settings can now run with higher details and better performance while offering new feature support such as FSR 3 which is definitely coming to APUs.
