No Touch ID For iPhone 8 Claims Rosenblatt Analyst; Apple To Produce 35-40 Million Units In 2H17-February 2024
Feb 12, 2026 8:06 AM

Another day, another Apple iPhone 8 rumor. Cupertino's upcoming flagship is creating quite a bit of hype on the rumor mill. The smartphone will feature a lot of upgrades and shake things up on a lineup that's become rather stale over the past couple of years. Supply chain constraints and lethargy bite Apple sorely as revenues fall and shareholders start to get anxious. The company's response? A heavily upgraded iPhone to match Android blow-by-blow for features. Today, we've got more on the device. Take a look below for more details.

The iPhone 8 Will Not Feature Touch ID Reiterates Another Analyst As The Smartphone's Launch Draws Near

When it comes to the iPhone 8, the rumor mill's yielding a lot of claims. If there's one thing that you should be sure of, it's that the device will be very, very different from its predecessors. It'll feature a glass body, which will enable wireless charging. The iPhone 8 won't be the only device from Apple with the feature however. It's also rumored that the iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus will carry inductive charging.

Today however, we've got more information on the smartphone's alleged 3D sensing and facial recognition capabilities. It's widely rumored that the iPhone 8 will feature facial recognition. Apple was the first manufacturer to make fingerprint recognition mainstream on a smartphone, and looks like the tradition will continue this year as well. However, in addition to facial recognition, the iPhone 8 will remove Touch ID from the equation - a big rumor.

Today, analyst Jun Zhang from Rosenblatt securities makes similar claims. A while back, another analyst from Capital Markets claimed that Apple's facing poor yields for Touch ID. Now, Zhang also believes this is the case. In fact, this lack will also result in the iPhone 8's mass production being shifted a week ahead of schedule - good news for both customers and investors. Of course, any information is only as good as its source, so nothing's set in stone as always.

Rosenblatt's also got some production numbers for the iPhone 8 and the iPhone 7s/iPhone 7s Plus. According to their data, "iPhone 8 OLED production to be around 35-40 million units in 2H17 (5 million and 30-35 million in Q3 and Q4, respectively) and iPhone 7S/7S Plus production to be around 50 million units in 2H17 (15 million and 35 million in Q3 and Q4, respectively)."
