OLED iPad Pro Models Will Feature Specialized Display Materials Sets Tailored For Unique Requirements-February 2024
Feb 12, 2026 6:48 AM

Apple is preparing to introduce new iPad Pro and MacBook models with OLED display. The OLED iPad Pro is expected to arrive next year with an OLED display, a switch from mini-LED, which is currently available on the 12.9-inch iPad Pro. According to a new report, the OLED panel on the iPad Pro will feature specialized display material. This specialized material set in the OLED display will have unique characteristics for the iPad Pro.

Apple's forthcoming iPad Pro models will feature LG's specialized display materials

Apple's M3 iPad Pro models could be the first to feature an OLED display. The iPad Pro duo is slated to launch next year with specialized OLED materials tailored for the bigger screen and according to Apple's requirements, according to The Elec. Apple is working with LG to develop the new OLED material sets, which will be part of the display. Furthermore, the company has also asked the supplier to design specialized display material sets for additional products such as the MacBook. The OLED MacBook is expected to arrive by 2027 with tailored material sets.

The source cites that Apple's upcoming iPad Pro models will make use of LG's "RDE" OLED material sets in both variants. The 11-inch iPad Pro currently features an LCD display, while the 12.9-inch model has a mini-LED display. The company plans to streamline the iPad Pro models by offering OLED displays on both models. Henceforth, the 11-inch and 13-inch iPad Pro models will feature LG's new "RDE" OLED material sets.

LG has previously used "RD" material sets in IT and the automotive industry. With "RDE," the supplier aims to restrict the technology for OLED material sets or different sectors. This means that Apple's OLED material sets for the iPad Pro will be custom-designed for the iPad Pro. Apple could potentially use the technology to optimize the characteristics of the panel according to its preferences.

Apple plans to use a two-stack tandem structure with the iPad Pro and MacBook's OLED panels. This will allow the panels to be as bright as the single tandem; however, it will consume less power, ultimately contributing to better battery life. The iPhone uses a single tandem structure, which could also see a future shift to a two-stack system.

As mentioned earlier, Apple will launch the new OLED iPad Pro models next year with upgraded internals. The M3 chip is fabricated on TSMC's 3nm architecture, delivering faster computational and graphical performance.
