The iPad Air gradually caught up to the iPad Pro as Apple expanded the design and features of the tablet. However, the iPad Pro does not have a wide range of differentiating factors from the iPad Air at this stage. The customer is confused about buying the iPad Pro or the iPad Air. Now, Apple wants to create a wider gap between the OLED iPad Pro and the iPad Air with a new design, upgraded internals, and superior accessories. A new report suggests that the OLED iPad Pro will launch with upgraded features in March of next year.
Apple to offer multiple exclusive elements with the launch of the OLED iPad Pro to create a wider gap from the iPad Air
In his latest Power On newsletter, industry analyst Mark Gurman states that Apple is working to create broader differentiating elements between the iPad Pro and iPad Air lineup. Gurman argues that the current model of the iPad Air features a slightly smaller display packed in a design almost identical to the iPad Pro. Additionally, the smaller 11-inch model of the iPad Pro features an LCD, similar to the Air. One of the most significant differentiating elements is the 120Hz ProMotion display. However, this is about to change with the launch of the OLED iPad Pro.
Gurman corroborates past reports that the iPad Pro will feature an all-new design housing an OLED display and upgraded M3 chip. These three aspects will segregate the OLED iPad Pro from the iPad Air. It was also reported that Apple will end the display discrimination between the iPad Pro as both models are expected to feature an OLED display. This will allow the company to position both iPad Pro models as the premium variants while the rest of the lineup sticks to LCD.
Gurman also states that Apple is working on a redesigned Magic Keyboard with a sturdier aluminum frame. The new Magic Keyboard will also make the OLED iPad Pro a more premium machine than the iPad Air, which will be compatible with the existing version of the accessory. It was previously reported that Apple's redesigned Magic Keyboard for the OLED iPad Pro will make it look more like a laptop. Since the company is opting for a redesigned chassis with slightly bigger 11-inch and 13-inch display sizes for the OLED iPad Pro, it makes sense for Apple to introduce a redesigned Magic Keyboard.
While the above-mentioned changes are welcome, the price of the OLED iPad Pro models could significantly increase. It was previously reported that the OLED iPad Pro could cost as much as $1,800, which is more than the base 14-inch M3 MacBook Pro. It remains to be seen how Apple will position the OLED iPad Pro and how the tablet's functionality could differ from the iPad Air as both models will run the same version of iPadOS.
