Say what you will about OnePlus, the company has given us some pretty cool stuff over the past couple of years. Their Alert Slider is probably one of my favorites, but the company also has its fingers deep inside some concepts. if you remember, the company once showcased a device with self-tinting camera glass, and the purpose was to use that glass as a neutral density or ND filter for photography. Although that never saw the life of the day, it was still cool to see what the company could do. Well, the OnePlus 11 Concept is another excellent way for the company to show off that they can pull some seriously cool stuff.
The OnePlus 11 Concept phone looks and sounds excellent, but do we need it?
So what does the OnePlus 11 Concept do? Well, for one, the phone uses Active Cryoflux cooling solution, which is just a fancy word for closed-loop liquid cooling, which we see all the time in computers. However, since fitting an actual pump inside the phone is impossible, the job is done through ceramic piezoelectric material acting as a micropump, which is responsible for moving the fluid through tubes inside the phone. The rest of the process works exactly as it would in a normal closed-loop cooling solution.
OnePlus has claimed that the Active Cryoflux cooling solution can keep temperatures up to 2.1°C lower while gaming and 1.6°C when charging the phone. While that should help with the performance, the difference is not going to be massive, as you can see in a video by Linus Tech Tips.
The OnePlus 11 Concept is undoubtedly a cool (no pun intended) looking phone, but the company has gone ahead and added some cosmetics, too. The tubes are backlit, showing the liquid moving through, and they even surround the camera island for some reason.
Sadly, the OnePlus 11 Concept is nothing more than a concept. We know for a fact that the phone is never coming to life. However, we can only hope that OnePlus brings the technology to future phones, but at the same time, imagining a future where needing a water-cooled phone seems a bit too unrealistic.
