OnePlus Open Is The Name Of OnePlus’ Upcoming Foldable As The Company Reveals While Taking A Dig At Samsung-February 2024
Feb 12, 2026 1:15 PM

2023 can easily be called the year of foldable phones, as we have had the chance to look at so many amazing foldable phones from all manufacturers. OnePlus is going to be next in line, and we already know how the phone is going to look, and now the company has finally unveiled that the upcoming foldable is going to be called OnePlus Open.

OnePlus Open will be launching on 29th August, packing Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, and more

The name OnePlus Open is a strange choice, but in a market where almost every foldable is called "fold," it's nice to see that OnePlus is making a different choice with its naming scheme. I am wondering how the sequels to this phone will be named, but honestly, it works for now, and if the company wanted to stand apart, it has managed to do just that with the latest foldable.

The announcement was made on the company's Twitter account, where they aptly said, "We OPEN when others FOLD," taking an apparent dig at Samsung since they launched their recent lineup of foldable phones only yesterday.

We OPEN when others FOLD

— OnePlus (@oneplus) July 26, 2023

Honestly, OnePlus Open has a lot to prove to us. Considering how we are now in the fifth generation of foldable phones, the company does not have any excuse to bring a subpar product onto the market. Despite the market slowly reaching saturation, it is also important to understand that foldable phones have a lot to prove before they can be taken seriously because, at the end of the day, you are still paying more for a phone that is a lot less durable.

As far as the specifications are concerned, the OnePlus Open is a proper flagship with Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, the latest and greatest camera hardware, and everything that you could wish for. If the rumors are true, then the phone is going to launch on August 29th. So, it is not far from Galaxy Z Fold 5 and the Galaxy Z Flip 5 hitting the shelves. So, it is safe to say that Samsung's offerings will be getting some competition from a brand that has been after it for some time. Will it be able to dethrone Samsung, the unofficial king of foldable phones, or is it something that Apple is going to do? We will wait and see, but until then, stay tuned.
