Resident Evil 4 To Launch For The iPhone, iPad, And Mac On December 20, Will Support Apple’s MetalFX Upscaling Technology-February 2024
Feb 11, 2026 11:49 PM

Shortly after the launch of Resident Evil Village for compatible platforms, Capcom officially announced that the critically acclaimed Resident Evil 4 is arriving for compatible iPhones, iPads, and Macs on December 20. Just like with the previous title, the remake of the 2005 3rd-person survival horror will support Apple’s MetalFX upscaling technology to boost performance, and it works similarly to NVIDIA’s DLSS and AMD’s FSR.

“London (November 7, 2023) Today Capcom announced that the critically acclaimed Resident Evil™ 4 is arriving on the latest Apple devices on December 20, 2023. Prepare to experience the fear of this state-of-the-art survival horror title in the palm of your hand with iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. The highly celebrated reimagining of the 2005 classic will also be available on iPads and Macs with the M1 chip or later. Separate Ways will launch alongside the action-packed main game. This story DLC follows Ada Wong on a secret mission that expands on the adventure and features thrilling new game mechanics.”

Like Resident Evil Village, a discount may be offered on Resident Evil 4 for a limited time, giving early buyers a chance to immerse themselves in the same experience and atmosphere but on a smaller display. As mentioned in the press release above, only the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, armed with Apple’s A17 Pro, will be able to run the game. As for compatible iPads, any model featuring an M1 and M2 can run the game.

If you are worried about the performance aspect of Resident Evil 4 running on the iPhone, iPad, and Mac, we have already reported that Resident Evil Village runs considerably well on the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max while also offering the same PC-like graphics settings. What is even better is that the game can run at 60FPS at the Full HD+ resolution, but you cannot crank every visual option at its maximum level and expect smooth gameplay. On an M2 iPad Pro, though, the game ran exceptionally on the 2732 x 2048 resolution, with every single graphics setting set to the maximum allowed value.

However, that particular version of the M2 iPad Pro featured 16GB of unified RAM, which will be necessary when running a game like Resident Evil 4 because Resident Evil Village was a VRAM hog, consuming 11GB of video memory, but with all the settings maxed out, of course. We expect to see similar performance when running Resident Evil 4, as the game is developed on the same RE Engine as Resident Evil Village, delivering jaw-dropping visuals while offering near-flawless optimization on a wide range of hardware.
